| I have been a community
councillor in Newcastle Higher ( Aberkenfig and Penyfai) for 5 years.
In
1990 I became chairman of the Ramblers Association Bridgend
group and have continued in that capacity for 14 years. I have
also been chairman of the Glamorgan Area RA for 10 years. I am
currently RA Wales chairman having just started the second year
of a three year term of office
Since living in Wales I have learned to speak Welsh, and
completed a BA hons. in 2002 in which 40% was completed through
the medium of Welsh.
I joined the Liberal Democrat party in Bridgend in 1999 and
presented a motion at the Wales Lib Dem Spring conference 2000
on the Countryside and Rights of Way Bill due to pass through
the Wales National Assembly.
In our own area, there are concerns about vandalism and the indiscriminate
dispersal of rubbish; not just in the open areas, but on our roads
and near the shops. Much of this is blamed on young people, but
there are few facilities available for them to use. I'm concerned
that we should provide areas where young people can congregate
to meet with each other and enjoy their own company. But currently
such provision is unavailable. We need to ask young people what
it is they want or need and try to provide that which is possible
and desirable.
