Maesteg

Gary Lewis

Gary Lewis lives in Maesteg West ward with his wife Claire Lewis. Both are keen supporters of Maesteg Rugby Club. Gary currently works for the local health board and is a governor at Plasnewydd Infants and Junior School.

Being a school governor Gary is keen to continue the extra investment that the Liberal Democrats on Bridgend County Borough Council have put into local schools and to ensure they receive the investment needed to give our children the best start in life.

As a local campaigner, Gary has been fighting with the Liberal Democrat Focus Team to cut crime and the fear of crime in Maesteg. "The result from our recent crime survey has shown that crime and anti social behaviour are big issues in Maesteg" said Gary Lewis. "After years of electing Labour Councillors in Maesteg, just what have they done? It's time to take back our streets." The Liberal Democrat Focus Team is working to build a safer Maesteg.

Martin Plant

Martin Plant is a well known community campaigner in Maesteg. He currently works as a social worker for Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, attends Bridgend Quaker Meeting House and is a school governor at Blaenllynfi Infants School.

Martin Plant has long been an opponent of Tony Blair's invasion of Iraq and has been working hard with the Liberal Democrat Focus Team to save local Post Offices from Labour's closure programme. "Already Labour has closed two Post Offices in Maesteg now they are saying they want to close more" said Martin. Labour will announce which Post Offices will face the axe in June this year. The Liberal Democrat Focus Team is working to protect local services.

Maesteg deserves a strong team to represent them" said Martin Plant. "I know working with Gary we can build on the Liberal Democrat success on the Borough Council by preventing crime, investing in schools, creating safer roads, improving local services and keeping Council Tax low."
