LibDem Policy: A real chance for a real change

FREEDOM TO LEARN: EDUCATION - Reducing the class sizes is essential if Welsh children are to have the best chance in life. To do this, we need more teachers. Welsh Liberal Democrats have made a start in the Welsh Assembly to do what's needed. But Wales needs more money if we are to make more progress. The Liberal Democrats will put a penny on income tax so that the Assembly can cut class sizes to 25. And there will be enough left over to scrap tuition fees for students too, just as we've already done in Scotland.

FREEDOM TO LIVE: HEALTH - We've all waited too long for Labour to sort out waiting times for health treatment. Wales needs more doctors and nurses. In April this year, more money will go to the NHS in Wales for just this - as a result of Liberal Democrats action in the Welsh Assembly. And we've also abolished dental check-up fees for the over 60's and under 25's, and frozen prescription charges for all. But Wales needs more. The Liberal Democrats will give Wales the cash it needs by taxing people earning more than 100,000. And we'll use some of it to end the scandal of the elderly paying for long term personal care. Just as we're doing in Scotland.

FREEDOM FROM POVERTY: PENSIONS - You only need to remember one thing about Labour and pensions - 75p. That's all Labour thought older people deserved. The Liberal Democrats will boost the standard pension by 5 a week, 10 for the over 75's and 15 for the over 80's. It's the fairest way to make sure that older people have the freedom to enjoy their lives with dignity.

FREEDOM FROM CRIME: LAW AND ORDER -The Conservatives failed to put extra police officers on the streets of Wales. Labour has been no better. The police are understaffed while the fear of violent crime increases all over the country. Liberal Democrats will close tax loopholes so we can recruit 350 additional police officers in Wales. This way we can prevent crime occurring in the first place.
