CHERYL GREEN

Cheryl Green represents the ward of Bryntirion and Laleston on Bridgend County Borough Council. Cheryl first contested the seat for the Liberal Democrats in a by election in march 1998 and took the seat from Labour for the first time. In 1999 Cheryl held the seat comfortably despite considerable efforts by the Labour party to regain it. She is now seeking the nomination to represent Bridgend in the 2003 Assembly elections.

Following the 1999 Council elections, Cheryl became leader of the Liberal Democrat group and also Leader of the opposition in Bridgend. She is now chair of an Overview and Scrutiny committee covering policy.

Married to Tom for 31 years with two sons, Richard and Robert, Cheryl works in the family software business part time nowadays to allow her to concentrate on her political career. She became interested in politics whilst studying with the Open University and now holds an Honours degree in International Politics as well as a diploma in Politics and Government. She is very keen to promote the devolution of power, particularly with reference to town and community councils where she feels decision making would be more meaningful when taken by local members.

Within the Liberal Democrat Party, Cheryl has served on the Welsh Party's Policy Committee and has been Chairman of the Bridgend constituency party, Membership Secretary and is now the Vice Chair. She is totally committed to working towards retaining our list seat and to go one better and secure a second seat. Cheryl will guarantee to bring energy and enthusiasm to any campaign.

In her non-political life, Cheryl is a keen rambler and animal lover. Hobbies include Latin American and Salsa dancing. Cheryl is also a big sports fan and is a qualified football referee
